Hello musicians of young and old!
My name is Justin Hazel and I am a private music instructor operating in the Calgary SE region. I travel to my students' homes. I have been teaching for 10 years now and have taught many ages and ranges of ability.
Piano: Starting at a young age, I made my way through the Royal Conservatory Music of Canada method up to the Grade 9 Level. I completed my Grade 2 and 8 playing examinations. Currently, I play contemporary worship at my church. Teaching beginner to intermediate skill levels on the piano, I have aided many young students working through the preliminary levels preceding the RCM method. I also have taught the basics to chording through pop songs, worship songs, etc. To make it more enjoyable, I try to introduce fun and recognizable songs supplimentary to lesson book material.
Guitar: My pursuit of the guitar began at age 11. Since then I have developed a playing facility that includes blues, country, rock, basic jazz, and singer/songwriter music. In 2011, I completed the Mount Royal University Jazz Diploma to further my understanding of the many aspects of music and playing the guitar. I have played a number of gigs throughout the years playing electric guitar in full bands, church, to playing duo acoustic sets at coffee houses. Currently, I play guitar and sing in an acoustic duo with a local Calgary artist. When it comes to teaching, I have learning how to teach my students the fundamentals of the guitar (scales, chords, reading, improvising, etc.) while teaching them songs they are familiar with and enjoy playing.
